What is the Difference between SS 409 and SS 409M?

What is the Difference between SS 409 and SS 409M

Jayesh Metal is the leading industry that provides amazing-quality Stainless Steel 409 Pipes. The pipes are made using raw materials of incredible quality, which ensures easy fitting, high tensile strength, sturdy nature, high versatility, and longevity.

Stainless Steel 409

It is a replacement for carbon and low alloy steels where high-temperature corrosion resistance and good formability are required. To enhance solderability, titanium is added. Fins in heater tubes, transformer and condenser cases, dry fertilizer spreaders, vehicle exhaust systems like mufflers, tubing, pollution control devices, shipping containers, and farm equipment are common applications.

Applications for SS 409

409 Stainless Steel Plates have a strong combination of heat resistance and resistance to corrosion and can be suitable for applications or conditions that are not or are lightly corrosive. Grade SS 409 has excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures and good welding efficiency and is used for automotive exhaust pipes or oil equipment.

The SS 409 grades are used in many different applications like Heat exchangers, Catalytic converter systems, Automotive exhaust systems (manifolds, converters, mufflers, and other components), Culverts, and Home heating systems, Farm equipment components, Automotive thermostats, Fuel filters, Electrical transformer cases, etc.

Chemical Composition of SS 409

Type 409 stainless steel has a unique chemical composition that includes Carbon ranging from 10.5 to 11.75 percent, 0.08 percent iron, 0.5 percent nickel, 1 percent manganese, 1 percent silicon, 0.045 percent phosphorus, 0.03 percent sulfur, and 0.075 percent titanium.

Stainless Steel 409M

SS 409M is a modified version of SS 409 (the initial version) with a lower carbon content of around 0.03 percent. This replaces carbon steels and low-alloy steels where greater strength, resistance to abrasion, weldability, and slide-ability are needed. At elevated temperatures, including sulfur-bearing atmospheres, it has good scaling & oxidation resistance. It finds use in areas/bunkers, transport, petrochemical, sugar, agriculture, fisheries, mining & quarrying, sewage plants, and general engineering industries for bulk solids handling

Applications of SS 409M

Alloy 409M is a steel that is considered specifically for the automotive exhaust industry, although it has also been used extensively in other industrial applications. As a result, gas heaters and other high-temperature applications are other probable functions of Alloy 409M Coils. They are also used in various industries such as the cement industry, chemical industry, railway industry, etc.

Chemical Composition of SS 409M

The chemical composition of SS 409M is slightly different from that of the initial version. This grade consists of 0.03 percent carbon, 1 percent silicon, around 0.5 to 1.5 percent manganese, 10.80 to 12.50 percent chromium, 1.5 percent of nickel, 0.040 percent of phosphorus, 0.030 percent sulfur, 0.03 percent nitrogen, and other elements.
